Tazul seeks global steps for funding, tech transfer in climate adaption

LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam called upon the global leaders to take bold and strong measures for funding and technology transfer for climate change adaption.

"It is the duty of the international community to extend cooperation to the developing nations in fighting against climate change. Partnership and solidarity should be strengthened worldwide to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future leaving no one behind," he said.

He made the call at high-level 2023 P4G Columbia Summit in the Colombian capital of Bogota on Saturday, said a press release here today.

Under the theme of "Transformative Partnerships for Sustainability: Actions Towards Green Growth and Life", this year's summit will focus on priority areas and plans in the areas of zero emissions mobility, renewable energy, climate smart agriculture, and food loss and waste.

Noting Bangladesh's establishment of 'Climate Change Trust Fund' in 2009, Tazul Islam expressed the country's keenness in continuing its works with p4G in the days to come.

He highlighted Bangladesh's remarkable achievement in socio-economic sector and the government's target to turn the country into a smart and developed one by 2041.

The minister also noted Bangladesh's leadership in sharing locally invented solutions to climate change adaption.

He said Bangladesh is spending around $450 million from domestic fund in implementing different projects for climate change adaption.

Tazul also mentioned that the government announced Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 for green development and building a prosperous delta.

He said Bangladesh government is providing incentives in startup business to promote youth entrepreneurs.

Later, the Bangladesh local government, rural development (LGRD) and co-operatives minister had bilateral meetings with Colombian Foreign Minister Alvaro Leyva and Danish vice-minister for development policy.

During the meeting with Colombian foreign minister, Tazul sough cooperation and knowledge sharing in different sectors.

The Colombian minister lauded Bangladesh's remarkable achievement in disaster management and expressed keenness to take lesson from Bangladesh.

He said Bangladesh and Columbia can share experience in conservation of biodiversity.

The LGRD minister and Danish vice-minister agreed to work on five focused areas of p4G so that congenial atmosphere for youths can be ensured.

They also agreed to extend further cooperation in waste management.

Tazul is in Bogota on a two-day official visit to attend the third p4G summit.

P4G - Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 - accelerates pioneering market-based partnerships to build sustainable and resilient economies.

It invests in impact to deliver inclusive and tangible solutions to build back better and greener to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
