Sylhet Environment Department sent notice in the name of the deceased

Sylhet Bureau

The Department of Environment has sent a notice for cutting hills in the name of a person who died about seven and a half years ago in Sylhet's Golapganj. In that notice, he was asked to attend the Sylhet Divisional Environment Directorate and participate in the hearing.

On January 9, such a notice was given in the name of Rafiqul Islam of Dharabahar village of Paschim Amura union of the upazila. He died on 25 August 2015. West Amura Union Parishad (UP) issued the death certificate of Rafiqul Islam on December 20 of the same year (Certificate No.-00032, Excise No.-005).

In the notice signed by Mohammad Emran Hossain, Director of Sylhet Divisional Environment Department, apart from Rafiqul Islam, 6 other people of the upazila were asked to attend the hearing on January 12 at 10 am. The name of Rafiqul Islam's nephew Saiful Islam is also among the six.
Meanwhile, Rafiqul Islam's son Fakhrul Islam filed a written complaint with the Director of Sylhet Divisional Environment Department on January 15 after receiving that notice. He mentioned that the allegations mentioned in the notice are completely baseless. Rafiqul Islam passed away on 25 August 2015. This is done intentionally to harass their family members. The investigator filed a baseless report without visiting the site. On site inspection, no complaint of hill cutting will be found against them.

Fakhrul Islam said, their house is on top of the hill. It has been around for more than 50 years. None of their families are involved in dune cutting. But there is a hilly land around. Influential circles are cutting those hills. Basically, they have been charged to cover them up.

Fakhrul Islam also said, 'We were shocked to receive the notice in the name of the dead father. The notice was not served at our house either. It was kept in the Union Land Office. After the hearing time passed, I got a call from the Department of Environment on my cell phone.

Mohammad Emran Hossain, the divisional director of the Department of Environment, said that the Tahsildar (Assistant Land Officer) of the Union Land Office has prepared a report regarding the cutting of dunes. The report came to the Department of Environment through the District Administration through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

Notice is given accordingly. The Assistant Land Officer may have issued a notice to the owner of the land for dune cutting. In this regard, the son of the deceased has been asked to be present at the next hearing. The matter will be decided in the next hearing.
