Abu Sayem Murad, a 2004-05 session student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Jagannath University, was killed in a bus accident at Jatrabari in the capital on Saturday.

Agitated by the incident, the mob mobbed the driver and helper of the bus and handed them over to the police. The crowd also set fire to the bus.

The incident took place on Shahid Farooq Road in Jatrabari on Saturday evening.

According to eyewitness sources, Murad was a passenger on bus number eight on the Gabtali route from Jatrabari. He fell down on the road when the bus helper pushed him due to an argument over the bus fare. Later, he was crushed by the bus and died on the spot. Abu Saadat Saeed, the brother of the deceased Murad, alleged that his brother was crushed by the bus after being pushed down by the helper.

Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station, Mazarul Islam, said after the accident, the excited crowd set the bus on fire. The passenger bus was partially damaged.

The body of the deceased youth has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
