Shutdown of Adani Group's Godda Power Plant causes power shortage in Bangladesh

Staff Correspondent

The Adani Group's coal-fired power plant in Godda (Jharkhand), India, which supplies electricity to Bangladesh through Rohanpur in Chapainawabganj, has abruptly halted operations. This unexpected shutdown has resulted in a critical shortage of power supply in Bangladesh.

An average of about 1,500 megawatts of electricity was available from the two units of the centre. The first unit of the centre is already closed for regular maintenance. Production at the second unit was halted on Friday. The power plant could not confirm yet when will they resume production.

Officials of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) and Power Development Board (PDB) confirmed the matter saying that the production has been halved since 25 June due to technical glitches in the second unit. Production was gradually ramping up, but, it was completely shut down at 9:43 am on Friday.
