SCC convenes emergency meeting to tackle flood situation

The flood situation deteriorated in Sylhet City. The suffering of the water-trapped people in the low laying area of the city has increased. Drinking water crisis, increasing health risks. Emergency health services have been sent to the doorsteps of flood-hit people in the flood-hit area. SCC is providing pure drinking water to solve the drinking water crisis. Shelter centers will be expanded, said Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.

The SCC mayor called on the government as well as the rich to come forward to deal with the natural calamity and stand by the people of the flooded areas. After a brief visit to London at 11 am on Thursday. Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation returned to the country and visited the flooded area of the City.

He said SCC had called an emergency meeting at Nagar Bhaban at 7 pm to alleviate the suffering of the waterlogged people. Until the next announcement, all kinds of leave for all levels of SCC officials and employees have been canceled due to the flood situation.

The mayor of SCC also said that the mobile medical team of SCC is working to ensure food crisis, sanitation, clean drinking water and health services to the people living in the shelters.

Accompanied by concerned officials and SCC councilors, SCC Mayor visited the flood-hit areas of the city including Teroratan, Kishori Mohan Government Primary School Flood Shelter Center, Jatarpur, Sohbanighat, Machimpur-Chhararpar, Taltala, Kazirbazar, Ghasitula, Kanishail. In the meantime, 16 flood shelters have been opened in Sylhet City Corporation area.
