The teachers of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) observed a half-day strike for the last day demanding the withdrawal of the pension notification issued by the Ministry of Finance as discriminatory.the teachers held a half-day strike and sit-in programme.

at ground floor of the building of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Business Education on Thursday.

If the demands are not met, they will observe a full day strike on June 30 and a complete strike from July 1.

At the same time, demands were made for confirmation scheme, inclusion of university teachers in the promised supergrade and introduction of individual pay scale for teachers and warned to continue the agitation until the demands are met.

At this time, the general secretary of SAU Teachers' Association, Professor Dr. Mohammad Al Mamun said that the senate session of Dhaka University passed a resolution condemning the attempt to impose the verification scheme and decided to withdraw the verification scheme.

This is good news for us and will be an inspiration for decision making for other public universities. We have no chance to go back even a single point from this movement. In this place we are and will remain united.

SAU Teachers Association President Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ullah Bhuiyan said, university teachers are appointed from the top 5% of a class, from 10%. And in BCS an administrative officer is applied only with appaired certificate. That means bringing in teachers from India, from Sri Lanka, from America, destroying the university's tertiary standards.

Then from here our children will be made Matiur Rahman, Asaduzzaman will be made. But now not even a university teacher will find that Matiur Rahman has become. Not even a teacher can be found who has fled through the Akhaura border without a passport in the dead of night or has been identified as a murder suspect. However, through these discriminatory notifications, teachers' efforts to work with dignity are being destroyed.

SAU Teachers Association General Secretary Dr. Chairman of Fisheries Technology and Quality Control Department Professor Md. Zakyul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Rural Sociology and Development Prof. Dr. Mithu Chowdhury and Professor of Soil Science Department. Md. Abul Kasem. Also various faculty members voluntarily participated in the strike.

It may be noted that the Ministry of Finance has launched a package called 'Pratya Scheme' along with the previous four schemes of Universal Pension Scheme. In this, all types of self-governing, autonomous, state-owned, statutory or homogeneous organizations and their subordinate bodies, officers or employees who joined after July 1, 2024, will be included in the universal pension management.

Bangladesh University Teachers' Association Federation has earlier called the announcement of universal pension 'Pratya Scheme' as 'discriminatory' and demanded that public universities be exempted from its purview.
