Ruling quarter hatching a plot to hold lopsided election again: BNP
Staff Correspondent
BNP on Wednesday alleged that the ruling quarter is once again hatching a plot to hold yet another unilateral election in the country.
“Yesterday’s statement of the prime minister proves that she is engaged in hatching a conspiracy to hold a one-sided election in the country again,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this evening.
While addressing a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, the BNP leader said that the government does not believe in holding a free, fair and inclusive election.
“The prime minister becomes angered and upset when anyone demands a free and fair election,” Rizvi said referring to the prime minister's reaction during her press conference at her official Ganabhaban residence in Dhaka on Tuesday.
BNP’s October 28 rally saw an overwhelming participation of people from all walks of life, however, the prime minister appeared to be intolerant of it, Rizvi said.
“The premier got desperate seeing the gathering of so many people and thus she let loose selected members of different law enforcement agencies to daunt BNP’s demand for holding the next general election under a non-party administration,” he said.
Due to this, she (PM) deployed her selected law enforcement personnel, resulting in the injury and death of BNP leaders and a journalist, through indiscriminate use of bullets, tear gas shells, and sound grenades.
The prime minister's senseless speech made the police force more enthusiastic to brutally torture BNP leaders and workers across the country, alleged the BNP leader.
Rizvi claimed around 5,729 leaders and activists of his party sustained injuries in the last four days centring the October 28 rally and the ongoing blockade programme.
A total of 473 politically motivated cases were lodged against the BNP men across the country during the same period and 6,973 party men were arrested as of Wednesday, Rizvi said.
Besides, a total of nine persons including a journalist met the tragic end of their lives, said the BNP leader.
