Round table on 'What do you want to see in future Khulna city' : Speakers emphasis increasing of citizens' involvement

Khulna Bureau

A round table meeting titled 'Equitable inclusive transition in the city and how the future Khulna city should look like' was held on Thursday afternoon at the Shahid Altaf Auditorium of Khulna City Corporation (KCC).

Chief Executive Officer of KCC, Lashkar Tajul Islam was the chief guest in the meeting.

Private development organization Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust and SIAM jointly organized this event.

The guests and participants of the event said that citizens' involvement should be increased in the development of the city. Appropriate planning should be formulated and its effective implementation should be ensured. Even during the day, the stench of waste emanates from the dustbins along several main roads of the city. There is a fear of the citizens getting sick from this.

All garbage should be removed at night. For healthy living, greening should be done as much as possible by creating enough open spaces and planting trees. Prepare proper plans to decongest traffic and train drivers of non-motorized vehicles including easybike-rickshaws on traffic laws. There is no alternative to de-cluttering the city's footpaths and keeping them open to pedestrian traffic. In the implementation of the development plan, the protection of the natural environment should be taken into consideration.
