Bangladesh spinners will have taken heart from the first day of the touring match between BCB XI and the West Indians Friday as the visiting side were bundled out for 257 in 79.1 overs after a five-wicket haul by young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
With the first Test starting Wednesday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, the touring side are putting the finishing touch to their preparation that was marked by the 18-year old Rishad bagging 5/75 from 23.1 overs, including three maidens, and staking claim for future selection.
Frontline Tigers slow bowlers in the Test squad, Shakib al Hasan, Taijul Islam, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan will have taken note as spinners accounted for seven wickets on the opening day; seamer Khaled Ahmed, also in the Test squad, bagging the other three wickets.
Resistance from the West Indians came in the shape of dependable opening batsman in the longer version, Kraigg Brathwaite, whose highest 85 came off 187 deliveries.
