Prof Tanzimuddin, Prof Anwar named as members of UGC

The University Grants Commission has named Dhaka University professors Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and M Anwar Hossen as new members.
The Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.
After the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5, the former chairman of the UGC, Prof Kazi Shahidullah, resigned on Aug 11 from Australia, citing his illness.
The interim government then appointed former Dhaka University vice-chancellor and former PSC chairman SMA Faiz as the new chairman of UGC on Sept 5.
Two new members of the UGC were then appointed.
According to the notification on Thursday, full-time members of the UGC have been appointed in accordance with section 4 (1) (b) of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission Order, 1973 (Presidential Order No. 10/73) and the UGC Act Amendment, 1998. The two new members are Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan of the Department of International Relations and M Anwar Hossen of the Department of Sociology.
The terms of these appointments will be four years. However, if the government deems it necessary, it can relieve the two of duty before the expiry of the prescribed period.
They shall be entitled to the pay and allowances last drawn in their immediate previous post and as members of the UGC, they shall receive other benefits as per prevailing rules. This appointment will be effective from the date of their joining.
