Principal turns College room into family space in Chilmari

Chilmari (Kurigram) Correspondent

If you remove the curtain of a room on the second floor of the college's administrative building, it seems like a living room. But no, it is not an administrative room of a government college. Ignoring government instructions and administrative policies, the principal has turned the college room into his living space. Several teachers and employees of the college said that the principal has been staying in the examination control room in the college's administrative building for a long time.

One such incident has taken place at Chilmari Government Degree College in Kurigram. The principal's name is Prof  Dr. Md. Mojibal Haider Chowdhury. He has been spending the night in the examination control room on the second floor of the administrative building since April this year. This has caused suffering to the teachers in charge of examinations during various examinations.

The principal has been accused of leaving his home on Wednesday night and returning on Sunday morning. He has also demolished the walls of some classrooms and made long extensions to the rooms without consulting the secretary and members of the Teachers' Council. However, he has denied all the allegations and said that he is staying in a room for the sake of the college.

On site, it was seen that there were beds and furniture in the examination control room on the second floor of the administrative building. Initially, he used to cook and eat there for a few days. However, now food is regularly brought from the house of an employee. Scenes of breaking the walls of some classrooms in the college were seen.

Lecturer AKM Golam Faruk, the secretary of the Teachers' Council, said, "I am not aware of the demolition of the college room wall. I was forced to write the resolution by being intimidated. The principal has told me that I will have to sign the retirement papers, but he is threatening me."

Lecturer Ziaur Rahman Zia, treasurer of the Teachers' Council, said that the rooms that were enlarged by breaking down the walls required permission from the Academy Council, but that permission was not taken. A resolution was written with the signatures of those present without taking it. In fact, we did not have any meeting about breaking down the walls.

Lecturer ATM Atiqur Rahman said, there is no law to stay overnight in the college as we do not have our own residential building. Moreover, the government pays 35% of the basic salary for house rent every month. The room where the principal is staying is used as a control room during the examination. We have to face various complications during the examination as he stays in the room.

The college's night watchman, Lalmia, said, "Sir lives in a room upstairs. He goes home on Wednesday nights and comes back to college on time on Sunday mornings. Earlier, he used to cook and eat in his room. From now on, I bring food from my house."

Chilmari Government Degree College Principal Prof  Dr. Md. Mojibal Haider Chowdhury did not agree to talk  . However, he works hard in a room for the sake of the college. He denied the remaining allegations. When asked about the leave application, he said that only the DG Mahadway has the right to ask questions in this regard.
