Prices of essentials on the decline

Prices of most of the essential commodities showed a declining trendin the capital’s kitchen markets on Friday after witnessing a soaring trend.

While visiting different markets in the capital, this correspondent found that the prices of rice, flour, vegetables, chicken, eggs and fish declined slightly but the prices of soybean oil, onion and chickpeas increased.

The price of coarse and fine rice has declined in the market after witnessing a soaring trend for a long time. The price of Swarna and Paijam rice varieties has declined by Tk 3-5 per kg while fine rice price declined by Tk 1-2 per kg.

Mehedy Hasan of Bilchand Rice Agency at Mohammadpur said rice price has declined as a large amount of Aman rice appeared on the market.

Fine rice price declined by 2.21 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 58-75 per kg while coarse rice price declined by 2.97 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 46-52 per kg in the capital, according to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

Besides, the price of winter vegetables is very low in the market and the price of farm eggs has also decreased by Tk 5 per dozen.

While visiting Mirpur-6 kitchen market, this correspondent saw that the supply of vegetables was plenty and the price of most of the vegetables was very low.

Newly harvested potato, bean, radish, and turnip were sold at Tk 30-40 per kg, brinjal, snake gourd, Yardlong bean and ribbed gourd were sold at Tk 50-60 per kg. Per piece cabbage and cauliflower was sold at Tk 30-40, cucumber was sold at Tk 60-70 per kg, tomato was sold at Tk 100-110 per kg, bitter gourd was Tk 60-70 per kg, pointed gourd was Tk 60 per kg and gourd was Tk 50 per piece.

Green chilli was sold at Tk 80 per kg and green banana was sold at Tk 40 per four pieces.

Sonali chicken was sold at Tk 260 per kg while layer chicken was sold at Tk 260-270 per kg and broiler chicken was sold at Tk 150 per kg. Farm egg price declined by Tk 5 per dozen and was sold at Tk 115 per dozen and the local chicken egg was sold at Tk 180-190 per dozen.

Meanwhile, loose soybean oil price increased by 3.86 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 170-180 per litre while one-litre bottled soybean oil price increased by 2.45 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 187-190 per litre.
