The post of Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Tajumuddin Upazila of Bhola has been lying vacant for more than a century and a half.

Officials of the land office said that since the post of Aceland has been vacant for a long time, there is some disruption in various works including rent sale, naming, renewal of lease of assigned property, maintenance of land tenure, return of ownership of river sikti, due to the absence of assistant commissioner (land).

According to upazila land office sources, Tajumuddin was declared an upazila in 1984. After that in 1999/2000 last one named Abdus Salam held the main duty in Lalmohan but Tajumuddin used to perform additional duties. Later, the post of Assistant Commissioner (Lands) remained vacant for more than a century and a half since he was transferred due to transfer. Since then the upazila executive officers have been performing additional duties of this office.

The land owners are suffering because the upazila land office does not have AC land for a long time. After that, no new Aceland posting has been done in Tajumuddin Upazila Land Office till now.

As a result, the activities in that land office are being disrupted. Especially since there is no AC land permanently in the land office, online services including miscases, VP, registration and deposit, demarcation, cancellation of rent deposit, Chandina VT, DCR, settlement of agriculture and land holdings, Jalmahal lease, assigned property lease and renewal are causing confusion and suffering. Being the people of the area for a long time. No one from that office can confirm that these tasks can be done easily through the Assistant Commissioner.

Nazir Mosharef Hossain of Tajumaddin Upazila Land Office said, there is no Aceland sir for more than a century and a half. Due to the absence of Sir, the office activities are being disrupted a bit. Currently, UNO is serving as acting.

Some of the victims said that we are suffering because of the absence of Aceland for more than a century and a half. They demanded the appointment of Aceland immediately in this very important upazila of Bhola district.

Maryam Begum, the officer in charge of Tajumaddin Upazila Nirbahi Officer Obhumi Office, said that there are some problems in fulfilling the duties of the two administrative offices of the upazila. Tajumuddin being a small upazila, the demand is low so we UNORAs fulfill the responsibility. I will inform the superior officer though. I try to serve as best as I can.
