
Mymensingh-3 seat: Poet Selim announces candidacy from BNP, showing drugs to red card

Poet Selim Bala, a BNP candidate, has announced his candidacy from Gouripur constituency in 148 Mymensingh-3, showing drugs as a red card. He is the Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Alliance Central Committee.
Poet Selim Bala exchanged views with locals at Mukhoria Bazar in Achintapur Union of the upazila on Saturday night.
At the exchange of views, the poet and BNP candidate, expressed his determination to make Gouripur a drug-free, modern and prosperous upazila by showing drugs as a red card.
After the exchange of views, poet Selim Bala, along with his followers, held a mass meeting at Mukhoria Bazar and distributed leaflets of the 31-point state structure announced by BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Poet Selim Bala said, "Along with literary pursuits, I am working with BNP." The video image made with my poem titled 'Hey Kishore Shono' about the life and work of martyred President Ziaur Rahman has been widely appreciated. Now I want to work for the people of the area through politics. The locals, especially the young generation, want me to come into politics. That is why I have entered the field.
He also said, 'Gouripur Upazila is plagued by various problems. One of the most important problems is drugs. Therefore, to build a drug-free, modern and prosperous Gouripur, I am declaring my candidacy to contest the next parliamentary election with the symbol of a sheaf of rice. Along with this, I am trying to build public opinion in favor of the party by promoting our leader Tarique Rahman's 31-point campaign.'
Expressing optimism that BNP will come to power in the next parliamentary election, poet Selim Bala also said, 'The people will decide who will come to power. The last 17 years of movement and struggle have been to return that power to the people. Now the biggest demand of the people is fair and impartial elections. And in that fair and impartial election, BNP will come to power through the people's votes, InshaAllah.
The meeting was presided over by Maulana Md. Abdul Hadi Khandaker and it was moderated by Poet Zillur Rahman Titu, and speeches were delivered by Mymensingh North District Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Nuruzzaman Sohel, and MR Karim High School Assistant Teacher Nazmul Islam Jewel.
