Mirza Fakhrul visited flood-hit areas in Sylhet

Sylhet Bureau

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Ruling party is not on the side of the flood victims in this difficult time for the people of Sylhet. The Prime Minister arrived in Sylhet two days ago and flew around in a helicopter.

He came to the Circuit House and held meetings with senior officials, including the Minister MP. He took 6 people and handed over 6 packets shown to the people. Where millions of people have been trapped in the flood waters. Their homes, businesses, crops, livestock have been washed away. He did not give anything to them.

He has given Rs 60 lakh for 3 million flood victims. What will happen to millions of people at risk of this money. Isn't the government working with such a huge force? Their MPs are not with the people. The main reason for this is that they have seized power by force without voting. The Awami League has nothing to do with the people.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a function organized by Sylhet District BNP to distribute food items among flood victims at Khazar Mokam High School Shelter Center in Gordana area of Darbast Union in Jaintapur Upazila after visiting various flood-hit areas in Sylhet on Thursday afternoon.

He added that they are chanting development slogans. They are just doing big projects to corrupt, from where they can loot. They are not doing anything for the common people. They are now busy with the Padma Bridge. People are drowning in the floods, not getting food, not getting treatment. The government has no eye on that. He thinks that there is no one in the country except Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Hasina.

The BNP secretary general said he had constructed 90 urinals in Mawa at a cost of Tk 9 crore. If this money was given to the flood victims of Sylhet then people would not have to suffer so much. As long as the Awami League is in power, they will not do anything for the people.

Mirza Fakhrul said that when the floods hit in 2004, the then Prime Minister Begum Khalda Zia came on her own and gave you food aid with her own hands. The Awami League government has placed Khaleda Zia under house arrest with a false case. Our leader Tareq Rahman has been deported on false charges. The government of the people must be established by removing this government from power.

BNP Standing Committee Member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku addressed the function as special guest under the chairmanship of Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury and General Secretary Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury.

The former minister said, "We have come to you on the instructions of the party's chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tareq Rahman." We know we can't offer anything according to your needs. Even after that we have come up with as much as we can. This government is not on the side of the people, because they are in power without a vote. BNP was by your side in the past, still is, will be in the future InshaAllah.

BNP chairperson's adviser. Enamul Haque Chowdhury, BNP Central Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary Haji Yasin, a member of the National Executive Committee. Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury, District BNP Organizing Secretary Shamim Ahmed, Jaintapur Upazila BNP President Abdur Rashid Chairman, General Secretary Abdul Hafeez, Former Upazila BNP President Abdul Matin, Sarek General Secretary Muhibul Haque, Organizing Secretary Intaz Ali Chairman, Darbast Union Parishad Chairman Baharul Islam Bahar also present here.

Earlier, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived in Sylhet in the morning and visited the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal (ra) and Hazrat Shah Paran (ra). He later visited various flood-hit areas of Sylhet district.
