Hours after the foreign ministry’s same allegation against Indian media, Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the media of the neighbouring countries are spreading propaganda against Bangladesh.
The home adviser also sought cooperation from journalists to present authentic news so that the neighbouring countries get the right information regarding their concerns.
Alam made the call while addressing a press conference in Rangpur on Monday following a meeting on the country's prevailing law and order situation. However, he did not mention the name of any specific country.
Earlier in the day while briefing diplomats stationed in Dhaka, Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said that a section of Indian media is spreading propaganda over minority issue in Bangladesh while some others are following their footsteps.
The meeting was held at the Rangpur Police Lines School and College auditorium, where the Rangpur divisional commissioner, police commissioner and senior officials of the division and eight district administrations were present.
During the press conference, the home adviser said there is no reason to panic in the border area adding, “We remain ready to face any situation.”
Claiming that the law and order situation in Rangpur division is better than other parts of the country, he said that the members of the law enforcement agencies will have to work more for the betterment of the country and its people.
The home adviser arrived in Pirganj of Rangpur by helicopter from Dhaka around 11 am.
He visited Jafarpur of Pirganj, the ancestral home of Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University and a martyr of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
He also visited Abu Sayed’s grave and offered Fateha seeking eternal peace of the departed soul and inquired about his family members.
