Main road of Matarbari turns death trap for commuters
Md. Ramjan Ali, Moheshkhali-Kutubdia (Cox's Bazar)
The traffic on the internal road of Matarbari has increased tenfold compared to before. Since the beginning of 2014, all materials for the project have been transported via this narrow road, including heavy vehicles.
The deplorable condition of the road over a stretch of 3 kilometres has turned it into a death trap for pedestrians. Numerous vehicle accidents, including fatalities among school children, have occurred while travelling on this road.
Due to the heavy vehicle traffic from the project, small and large potholes have formed on the internal road of Matarbari, causing immense suffering for both vehicles and people commuting.
During the monsoon, water accumulates in the potholes at the Matarbari New Market CNG station, resulting in students and pedestrians having to navigate through muddy water mixed with stagnant water.
There are several dangerous small and large potholes on the road from the new market CNG station to Purana Bazar, through Bangla Bazar, and up to Mogdail Bazar and Sairar Dail Bazar.
Local Abdu Rashid said that the local public representatives and political leaders' goodwill and their dirty mentality are the reasons why the people of Matarbari are being deprived of benefits.
Moheshkhali Upazila Engineer Md. Boni Amin Joni said that the main road of Matarbari will be repaired quickly, and the survey of the road has already been completed by the engineering office.
He also said that the main road of Matarbari has been designed from the Soudan-Chittagong project, the road is very narrow so if the locals cooperate, we will start work immediately after the tender is called.
