Land officials attacked while trying to recover govt land in Savar, one injured

Land officials were attacked by land grabbers while issuing a notice to recover government khas land in Savar.
A land assistant officer named Jahangir Alam was seriously injured in the incident and has been admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Shyamlasi Kalatiapara village of Bhakurta Union in Savar.
The injured Jahangir Alam is a resident of Binutia village under Shahjadpur police station in Sirajganj district. He is working as a land assistant officer in Rajfulbaria tehsil under Savar Upazila Land Office.
According to sources in the Land Office, an influential group had been occupying a local government khas land for a long time. The Land Office took the initiative to recover the land on the orders of the High Court. As part of this, some officials and employees went to the relevant land on Wednesday to serve an eviction notice. At that time, the occupants suddenly organized themselves (created a 'mob') and launched an ambush attack on the government team.
Although others ran to defend themselves, Jahangir Alam was caught and hit on the head with a brick. Apart from this, another employee named Akash was also beaten up. Later, with the help of locals, Jahangir Alam was rescued unconscious and admitted to the hospital.
Dr. Mirazur Rehan Pavel, a doctor at the emergency department of Enam Medical College Hospital, said the injured officer is in critical condition. He has injury marks all over his body and has been admitted to the Neuro ICU.
There has been extreme anger and anxiety among the local land office officials and employees since the incident. So far, no one involved in the attack has been arrested.
Savar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Zahirul Islam said, "Legal action will be taken against the accused in this attack. The drive against the land grabbers will continue."
