As part of the celebration of the July-August Mass Uprising Day and a three-year action plan, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football Tournament has begun at the Joypurhat District Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The tournament was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akter Chowdhury.
Present at the event were Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Md. Jinnah Al Mamun, Additional District Administrator Bipul Kumar, BNP National Executive Committee Member Foysal Alim, Joypurhat District BNP Convener Golzar Hossain, Joypurhat District Jamaat Amir Fazlur Rahman Saeed, Poura BNP General Secretary Abu Rayhan Ujjal, among others.
The organizers stated that the tournament was arranged to commemorate the July-August Mass Uprising Day. They aim to bring about physical and mental changes in the youth through sports and contribute to societal transformation.
A total of eight teams, including five upazilas and three municipalities of the district, are participating in the tournament. In the first day's match, Joypurhat Municipality defeated Panchbibi Municipality 1-0.
Meanwhile, thousands of spectators gathered to enjoy the match.
