JnU teachers to halt classes, exams protesting Pension Scheme

JnU Correspondent

Jagannath University (JnU) teachers are set to commence a total work stoppage from tomorrow, demanding the withdrawal of the discriminatory pension scheme issued by the Ministry of Finance. They are also calling for the inclusion of university teachers in the promised super grade and the introduction of a separate pay scale for teachers.

This decision was announced in a statement signed by the acting president of the Jagannath University Teachers' Association, Professor Dr. Md. Momin Uddin, and the general secretary, Dr. Shaikh Masrick Hasan, on Sunday. The action aligns with the program declared by the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Associations.

During the work stoppage, all classes across all departments and institutes of the university will be suspended. This includes online, evening, Friday, and Saturday professional courses, along with all other academic activities. No exams, including midterms, finals and admission tests, will be held. Departmental offices, seminars, computer labs, and research labs will remain closed. Additionally, academic committee meetings, planning committee meetings, question paper coordination, and other meetings will be postponed. All activities of the Dean's office, including admission tests, will also be suspended. No seminars, conferences or workshops will take place and no teacher with administrative responsibilities will perform their duties.

Teachers describe this movement as one to protect the honor and dignity of the university teaching community and as a protest against interference in the university's autonomy. The comprehensive work stoppage will continue until their rightful demands are met. Moreover, teachers will hold a daily sit-in from 12 PM to 1 PM in front of the Bhasha Shaheed Rafiq Bhaban.
