JnU students stage sit-in in front of Secretariat with three demands

Md Tanvir Hossain, JnU

Students of Jagannath University (JnU) have staged a sit-in in front of the Secretariat, pressing for three demands. They have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met.

This afternoon, at around 4 PM, the students began their march toward the Secretariat in a large procession. Speaking about their movement, they stated, "We are fighting for our rights, and we will not leave until we receive a positive response."

Earlier in the day, the protesting students announced that they would besiege the Secretariat if no meeting was held between ministry officials, army representatives, and the university administration by 1:30 PM. This announcement was made during an impromptu press conference held at the university's Shaheed Minar premises by AKM Rakib, president of the JnU chapter of Bangladesh Chhatra Adhikar Parishad.

The sit-in at the Secretariat is a continuation of their protest, which began on Sunday. The demands include handing over the second campus of the university to the Army, arranging temporary accommodation for students and providing housing allowances for at least 70% of students until temporary accommodations are arranged.
