The people may get a respite from the persistent heat wave as rainfall is likely to occur in different parts of the country starting from the beginning of May.

“Rain is likely to occur at many places across the country on 2 May which may bring a potential relief from the ongoing heat wave,” Md Shahinul Islam, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told the Daily Sun on Friday.

Besides, some parts of the country may experience nor’westers accompanied by hailstorms after 2 May, which could help alleviate the intensity of the heat wave, he said.

Responding to a query he said, rain or thundershower is likely to occur on 27 and 28 April in Sylhet division but it is not enough to bring down the intensity of the existing heat wave.

A simultaneous moderate to heavy downpour at different parts of the country specially in the northern and southeaster regions is needed to get relief from the heat wave, he said.

Meanwhile, the BMD in its forecast commencing 9 AM of 26 said rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places.

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

A very severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Chuadanga and Jashore and a severe heat wave is sweeping over the rest part of the Khulna division and the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalgonj, Manikgonj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur & Nilphamari.

A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Barishal division and the districts of Dhaka, Madaripur, Kishoregonj, Narsingdi, Bagura, Naogaon, Sirajgonj, Rangpur, Kurigram, Panchagarh, Mymensingh, Maulovibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni and Bandarban and it may continue.

The BMD in its forecast commencing from 9am on 27, said that the rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Sylhet division with hails at isolated places. The prevailing heat wave is likely to continue.

In the next 24 hours forecast commencing from 9am on 28, the BMD said that the rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Sylhet division with hails at isolated places. The prevailing heat wave is likely to continue.

In its outlook for the next five days, the BMD said the rainfall activity may increase over Northeastern and Southeastern parts of the country at the end of the period.
