National University (NU) vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Mashiur Rahman has said that higher education not only creates jobs, but also makes the philosophy of society.

He said, “Exam management will teach us accuracy. It will play a role in creating a better mind in the society. Higher education will spread light. Higher education is only for job, it is wrong idea. Higher education creates the philosophy of the society.”

The VC came up with the discloser while addressing as the chief guest at the workshop on 'Model College Project and Examination Management' at Daulatpur College Auditorium in Kushtia on Wednesday (November 9).

Highlighting various aspects of the country's higher education, this prominent sociologist said, 'Very soon we are going to launch various job-oriented courses including, ICT, soft skills and language where all degree, honors and masters level students can do these courses.”

He further said, “But in order to implement all these plans and transform them into quality education, the main craftsman is the teacher. But if the teachers of that level are not prepared, then it is difficult to implement these things.”

“However, teachers are not made in a day. It's all about the process. Our administrative structure also has the issue of non-availability of teachers. In various administrative cadre services, training is provided at the beginning of the service. But not in teaching. Even so, teachers have to take responsibility and leadership for change,” he added.

Kushtia Daulatpur College Principal Md Sadikuzzaman presided over the programme.

Among others, NU Dean of the School of Undergraduate Education Professor Dr Md Nasir Uddin, examination controller Badruzzaman, director of ICT affairs Muminul Islam, Director of College Monitoring and Evaluation Department Rafiqul Akbar, Deputy Registrar of Vice-Chancellor's Office Mostafizur Rahman, Principal of Khalisakundi College Nazmul Haque, Dr Md Nasreen Afroz, Principal of Fazlul Haque Girls College Abu Saeed, Vice Principal Ajmal Hossain of People's College were also spoke on the occasion.
