Heavy rain likely to drench Bangladesh for next 3 days

Staff Correspondent

Bangladesh is likely to witness continuous precipitation for the next three days as the monsoon is quite active over the country.

Monowar Hossain, a meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told the Daily Sun on Sunday that heavy (44-88mm per day) to very heavy rainfall (89mm and above per day) is likely to occur at places over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions during the next 72 hours commencing at 4pm today.

Due to heavy rainfall, landslides may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, he said.

“A monsoon trough runs through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the centre of the low to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over the north Bay,” said the meteorologist.

Meanwhile, the Met office advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three as gusty or squally weather may affect the ports, the north Bay, and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay were also advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
