In a festive atmosphere in Narayanganj and Dhaka, the BKMEA (Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association) election witnessed a landslide victory for the Progressive Knit Alliance panel led by Mohammad Hatim.

Out of 572 total voters, 431 exercised their voting rights, amounting to 75.35% voter turnout. All 35 director positions were won by candidates from the Progressive Knit Alliance panel.

The voting took place continuously from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday (May 10), marking a new chapter in the history of BKMEA. After a long hiatus, voters expressed gratitude toward the Election Commission for facilitating such a vibrant election. A total of 38 candidates contested for the 35 director positions, including 35 from the Progressive Knit Alliance and 3 independent candidates.

Following the announcement of results, the supporters and members of the Progressive Knit Alliance burst into jubilant celebrations. Stakeholders believe that this overwhelming show of trust by the voters toward Mohammad Hatim and his panel is recognition of their longstanding service and will contribute to transforming BKMEA into a more dynamic and business-friendly organization.

After the victory, Mohammad Hatim stated, "This win reflects the trust and confidence the members of BKMEA have in me and my panel. As promised, we will take all necessary steps, including negotiations with the government, to resolve all issues faced by BKMEA-affiliated businesses.”

This newly elected leadership of BKMEA will serve a two-year term (2025–2027), playing a key role in the development of the knitwear sector. Business leaders feel this election is not just a democratic process but a revival of hope and new direction in the BKMEA landscape after a prolonged silence.
