Haribhanga Mango is a new dream of Rangpur. This Mango of Rangpur has a great impact on the economy of Rangpur as well as Bangladesh. Recently, the recognition of this mango as a GI product has spread across the world beyond the borders of Bangladesh.

As a result, everyone thinks that this mango will have a greater impact on the overall economy of Rangpur and Bangladesh. So, it can be said that this mango has become a blessing in the economy of Rangpur.

The dream of the mango farmers of this area is going to be derail due to ongoing extreme heat wave and rainless position. According to the Rangpur Agricultural Extension Department, it is known that there are 2 thousand 537 hectares of lands areas of Haribhanga Mango trees in Rangpur. Last year mango production was 35 thousand metric tons.

The concerned officials also said that there was possibility to increase the production this year. But now this possibility is about to vanish because of unbearable heat wave as well as acute rainless position. Already it is seen that a large number of little mangoes have been fallen from the mango tress. If the present situation continues, there will have a dangerous impact on the overall Haribhanga Mango production in Rangpur.

Some days ago, our Rangpur Correspondent has visited the different areas including Rangpur Sadar, Palichra, Shampur of Badarganj, Khoragach & Padaganj of Mithapukur and that time small and big gardens of this areas had seen buds full of trees.

Such a scene of newly budding was then not only in the vast township, but also the trees of this areas were spreading the fragrance of mango buds. Talking to the mango farmers of the area, it was said that if there had been no storm or any major natural disaster this year, there would be a bumper crop of mangoes which would play an important role in changing the fate of the people of this region.

At present, the hope and dream of the mango farmers of this area has been broken. They don’t know what is happening and how to face the situation.

Some mango farmers are trying to water under the mango tress and some are splashing water on the tress to save the mangoes from the effect of unbearable heat wave and acute rainless position. But they don’t know what is going to happen to their fate.
