Growers happy over Bumper yield of watermelon in Bhola

Bhola has had a bumper crop of watermelons this year due to favorable soil and weather conditions. Watermelon cultivation exceeded last year's record. There was no damage to the yield due to the absence of ragweed and insect attacks. This has put a smile on the face of the farmers.

Farmers think that they will be able to recover the production cost by getting desired amount of yield. Watermelons produced in Bhola go to outside districts after meeting the local demand. This year, 9 lakh 55 thousand 916 metric tons of watermelons have been produced, said the Agriculture Department.

Some are busy with field maintenance, application of fertilizers, weed control and some are busy picking watermelons from the field. Due to the absence of disease and insect attacks, there was no disaster in the watermelon yield this time, and the farmers got a good yield.

The yield has also been good. So they are satisfied. Tarikul and Farhad, farmers of Paschim Char Umed Union of Lalmohan Upazila, said that this year's watermelon yield has been better than last year. As a result, we think we will be able to profit.

Another farmer Russell, Swapan and Lokman said that there is no disaster in the yield this year. So yield is good. I hope to get good market price. Tutul Chandra Saha, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of West Charumed Union, said, 70 hectares of land in my area have been planted with watermelons.

The yield of all is very good. We have given various suggestions to the farmers. Due to the good yield, their interest in watermelon cultivation has increased.

According to the agriculture department, the Bhola watermelons go to different districts after meeting the local demand. And so the watermelon plantation is becoming popular day by day.

The agriculture department also thinks that watermelon cultivation will increase in the future. In this regard, the deputy director of Bhola Agricultural Extension Department said. Hasan Wasirul Kabir said, the demand for Bhola watermelon is high, so it is exported to different districts.

Production will increase further in the future. Watermelon has been cultivated in 18 thousand 383 hectares of land in the district this year. Last year it was 12 thousand 249 hectares. The agriculture department believes that the previous day's record has been exceeded due to the cultivation of more than one lakh watermelons.
