Greater Sylhet Community UK mourns death of Sub-Sector Commander General Abdur Rab

On behalf of Greater Sylhet Community UK, the organization's Central Convener, senior journalist Mohammad Makis Mansur, Co-convener, Masud Ahmed, Member Secretary, Dr. Mujibur Rahman, and Finance Secretary, M. Ashraf Mia, along with the leaders of the organization's 12 regional and various branch committees, in a joint condolence message, expressed deep sorrow at the death of Major General (Retd.) freedom fighter Mohammad Abdur Rab (PSC), a son of Rajnagar, Moulvibazar district, and Sub-Sector Commander of Sector 'A' 4, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and sought everyone's prayers for the eternal peace of the deceased's soul.

In the condolence message, the central convener of Greater Sylhet Community UK and UK BD TV Chairman Mohammad Makis Mansur said that the country and the nation have lost a talented son with the death of General Rob, a resident of Mushuriya village in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar district. His lack will not be easily filled, he has worked for the welfare of humanity throughout his life.

It is worth noting that the talented son of Moulvibazar Rajnagar, the late Major General (Retd.) Hero Freedom Fighter Mohammad Abdur Rob (PSC), Sub-Sector Commander of Sector 'A' No. 4, passed away at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital on March 2, 2025 (Saturday) after a long illness. He was 81 years old at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and numerous relatives. He was buried with state honors at the Dhaka Banani Cemetery on March 5, 2025. Before the burial, the Bangladesh Army's honor guard completed all the procedures including state honors, offered prayers, handed over the flag to the next of kin, and after completing the burial work, the Army's condolence officer Nasir Afzal placed a wreath on the grave of the deceased on behalf of the Bangladesh Army Chief.

Brief biography of the late Mohammad Abdur Rab : He was born on March 22, 1943, in the house of a respectable Muslim family in the village of Masharia, Sadar Union of Rajnagar Upazila of Moulvibazar district, to the late Haji Qorban Ali and his mother, late Aisha Begum. His maternal grandparents' house was Beg Bari, Patantula village of the same union. His working life began as a teacher at Rajnagar Portias High School. Later, he joined the Bangladesh Army.

On June 5, 1966, he joined the 29 Supply Transport Battalion after completing his army service. He was commissioned in the then Pakistan Army. He was honored as an officer responsible for unit training. Your enthusiasm and potential are the hallmarks of your character. After coming to Bangladesh on leave in March 1971 while he was a captain in the army, when the war of liberation was declared, he went to India instead of going to his place of work in Pakistan and served as the sub-commander of Sector No. 4 'K', Captain Mohammad Abdur Rob.

He retired from service as a Major General in 1996. In his colourful career, he served as the commander of Jehanabad Cantonment, Khulna, Director of DGFI, Supreme Command Headquarters, Chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust, Chairman of Bangladesh Hockey Federation, Chairman of Jibon Bima Corporation, Director of Bangladesh Ordinance.

After retirement, he built "Ayesha Memorial Hospital" in Mahakhali, Dhaka in the name of his mother. He also established the International Medical College of Bangladesh and the International Nursing College of Bangladesh in Tongi.
