Garment workers' clash leaves one dead in Cumilla

A garment worker Mahmuda Akhter (40) died in a fight between two garment workers over a trivial incident in Cumilla.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening at the house of Mohiuddin Abdul Quader in Ward No. 20 of Cumilla city. They lived on rent in that house. Another garment worker accused in the incident, Rahima Akhter, has been arrested by the police.

The deceased Mahmuda Akhter of Muradnagar Upazila Bangra Bazar thana Metanghar Madhyampara village. Daughter of Khalekuzzaman. He worked in a garment factory in Cumilla EPZ. And the accused Rahima Akhter is the daughter of Abdur Razzak of Shashia village of Barura upazila.

According to local sources, three colleagues along with Mahmuda and Rahima Akhtar were staying in a room on rent in the house of Mohiuddin Abdul Quader in Unaisaar area.

On Tuesday evening , the two had an argument over a trivial matter. At one stage they started pulling each other's hair. Mahmuda suddenly lost consciousness. Later, the owner of the house, Mohiuddin, rescued him and took him to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.

Confirming the matter, the in-charge of Cumilla EPZ Police Outpost Mohammad Mokhleshur Rahman said that the body was recovered and sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The accused Rahima Akhtar was arrested and brought to the police station for questioning. Necessary action will be taken later.
