Former student leader Sumon, 27 BNP leaders, activists acquitted from case

Pabna District Chief Judicial Court learned Judge Mohammad Mostafa Kamal acquitted 27 leaders and activists of BNP and other affiliated organizations including Imrul Kayes Sumon, former president of Ishwardi Upazila Chhatra Dal.

This judgment was given yesterday during the session of the court. At the funeral, on October 27, 2013, the then Awami League president Anisunnabi Biswas filed a case against 27 leaders and activists of BNP and affiliated organizations, making Imrul Kayes Sumon, the former president of Ishwardi Upazila Chhatra Dal, on the charges of vandalism, arson and looting of the Awami League office.

There were 100 to 150 other unnamed accused in this case. In the case (No. 355), accused No. 1 accused Imrul Kayes Suman's order that the accused made a surprise attack and vandalized the Awami League office. After almost 12 years, the Pabna District Court on September 15, 2024 acquitted the defendants. The acquitted accused were Imrul Kayes Sumon, Mehedi Hasan, Zakir Hossain Jewel, Sonamani, Shyamal, Atal.
