Campus Desk

A foreign student was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in the port city in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Phutphaphone Xaydala, 23, who hailed from Vientiane of Laos.

She was doing her undergraduate in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Asian University for Women (AUW).

Sources said the two others injured were Bangladeshi siblings. However, their identities could not be ascertained.

The siblings and their friend Phutphaphone came to visit the city’s Patenga Beach riding on a Pajero Jeep on the occasion of Eid.

All of a sudden, the front wheel of their jeep had a burst, resulting in the vehicle flipping and hitting the road divider badly on their way to return at around 1:00 am on Tuesday, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabirul Islam of Patenga police station.

All of them were injured critically and were rushed to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared Phutphaphone dead, he said, adding that the other two injured were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

The body was handed over to the university authority after the autopsy, OC Kabirul added.
