Farmers busy in Boro paddy cultivation in Bhola

Boro paddy planting program is going on in 7 upazilas of Bhola. The agriculture department has set the target of boro cultivation in the current season on 70 thousand hectares of hybrid and Ufshi varieties.

Among them there are hybrid 16 thousand and Ufshi 54 thousand hectares of land. A target of 3 lakh 1000 metric tons of rice production has been set from the designated land. So currently the farmers are busy planting Boro seedlings.

Meanwhile, to increase the production of Boro rice, the government has provided free seed fertilizer assistance to 39,000 farmers this year. So far Boro plantation has been completed in the district on about 32 thousand hectares of land. In the end, if the weather is favorable, the stakeholders expect that the cultivation activities will exceed the target.

Agriculture office sources said that Boro paddy varieties in the district are usually Bridhan-28, 29, 45, 47, 50, 55, 58, 67, 74, 88, 89. Erratum-24. Bina-8, 10 etc varieties are cultivated. In addition, hybrids include Durbar, SLITES, Partex-1, KGGold. Boro rice planting program will start from the first of this month and will continue for about 20 days. Md. Humayun Kabir, Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer of the District Agriculture Extension Department, said that 18 thousand farmers have been given free 2 kg seeds for Boro rice hybrid varieties in the district. And for Ufshi, 21 thousand farmers have received 5 kg of improved seeds, 10 kg of MOP and 10 kg of DAP fertilizer.

Besides, about 1000 exhibitions have been arranged in favor of one bigha of land. Feroz Ali, Lokman Hossain and Mosleuddin, farmers of Bank Hat area of Veduria Union of Sadar Upazila, said that they have received seed and fertilizer from the government.

This year Boro has prepared land for paddy cultivation in 5 acres of land. He is currently busy planting seedlings. They also said that they are getting all kinds of advice from the agriculture office.

Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Directorate Md. Hasan Warisul Kabir said that Boro paddy plantation activities are progressing in the district. Due to the use of rice trans planter for planting Boro seedlings, the labor shortage of farmers is being removed.

More seedlings are being planted in less time and cost. Besides, more than half a hundred irrigation machines have been distributed under various projects for irrigation of farmers' crop fields. Our field level agricultural officers are providing all kinds of consulting services to the farmers including planting seedlings in rows, applying fertilizers in balanced amounts. If everything goes well, he expressed hope that Boro paddy cultivation in the district will exceed the target.
