Gobindaganj (Gaibandha) Correspondent

In Gobindganj of Gaibandha, due to favorable weather conditions and no attack of insect spiders, there has been a bumper yield of Patal this time. The import of Patal in the market is also very good. Each Man Patal is being sold at the rate of 800 to 900 taka. Farmers are happy with good yields and prices.

Arji Khalsi, Babanpur, Kalikadoba, Pargoira, Baluvhra, Anantapur, Meerkuchi Madantair, Anantpur, Ghugha, Kaiyaganj, Bakshichar, Ghoramara, Masta, Kharia, Nager Vita of Kamardah union, Chanpara, Dharma, Jagannathpur of Kochashahar union and more than half a hundred villages of Patel.

Bumper yielded. All around these villages are only green paddy fields. Innumerable pots are hanging from green potal trees on rows of bamboo platforms 2/3 feet above the ground. In the afternoon, the farmers are busy tending these paddy fields.

Again early in the morning, potal farmers from different areas pick up potal from the field and load it in sacks in vans, auto chargers and bring it to Sadar's Golapbagh, Phansitala, Balua, Komarpur markets for sale. Buyers from different areas including Dhaka are buying potal from farmers at different prices and taking it to the destination in trucks.

Every day 3/4 trucks full of pots are being taken by buyers to different areas. Initially, Patal was sold at a price of Tk 1,000 to 1200, but due to high import, now it is being sold at a price of Tk 800/900.

Farmer Zafurul Islam, when he went to the Gobindaganj town's wholesale raw market in Gobindaganj town, said, "I have grown potal in one bigha of land. This year there has been a good yield of Patal as the weather has been favourable. So far, I have collected and sold 4-5 Mon every week. The price is also good. I hope to be able to sell 150 to 200 Mon in one bigha land. Other farmers like him also expressed hope of profiting by selling patal.

Patal dealer Khairul Islam said, I am buying patal at the rate of 800 to 900 taka. Imports are good. To sell in Dhaka by taking patal by truckload. Gobindganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Mehedi Hasan said that this year 115 to 118 hectares of land have been cultivated. Due to favorable weather conditions and less attack of insect spiders, the farmers got a good yield of patal. The agriculture department is working round the clock at the field level to increase the crop production of the farmers.
