
Expired medicines seized, two pharmacies fined in Morelganj

The National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate has fined two pharmacies in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat for selling expired medicines and other irregularities.
The operation was conducted in different pharmacies and market areas of the upazila headquarters by Sharifa Sultana, Assistant Director of the Directorate’s Bagerhat District Office on.Monday.
During the drive, Tappadar Medical Hall was fined Tk 5,000 under Section 37 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 for storing expired medicines and failing to display a price list. Fahad Medical Hall was fined Tk 1,000 under the same section for similar irregularities.
The inspection team also checked the cleanliness and environment of several hotels and restaurants in the market and provided awareness messages to the business owners.
The fines were collected on the spot, and traders were instructed to comply strictly with consumer protection laws.
Assistant Director Sharifa Sultana said,
“We are conducting regular drives to ensure consumer rights. Anyone found violating the law will face stricter action in the future.”
She added, our operations will continue to prevent irregularities in the market and ensure safe products and services for consumers.
Officials from the local administration and members of law enforcement agencies assisted during the operation.
