Former mayor Anjuman Ara and Jubo League Secretary Khokon Saha were sent to jail on the alleged attack on students during students movement.
The court has rejected the bail prayer to them in two separate cases of firing, bombing and leading an attack on a student-public procession against discrimination in Narail and ordered them to be sent to jail.
District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Sharmin Nigar issued this order on Thursday morning. Later in the afternoon, they were taken from the court to jail under tight security by the army and police.
Abdul Haque, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Narail District and Sessions Judge Court, confirmed the matter.
According to case source, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a protest march in Malibagh, Narail Sadar on August 4 last year, demanding the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sadar Upazila BNP General Secretary Sheikh Mostafa Al-Mujahidur Rahman Palash filed a case with the Sadar Police Station on September 10, alleging shooting, bomb blasts and beatings during the march.
On September 19 of that month, Banshgram Union BNP General Secretary Md. Wahiduzzaman filed another case with the same allegation. The second accused in this case is Khokon Saha and the 26th accused is Mayor Anjuman Ara. On January 27, the accused were granted 8-week anticipatory bail by the High Court. After appearing in the Narail court on Thursday (March 20), the court did not grant bail and sent them to jail.
When the accused were leaving the court, local BNP leaders and activists created a ruckus, the army arrived at the court premises.
