In the 12th Independence Day National Debate Festival held at Dhaka University, the Suryasen Hall Debate Club of the University won the title of 'Suryasen Hall Debate Dhara'.

Jahangirnagar University's 'Debating Forum of International Relations' has been the runner-up. This debate festival was organized on the occasion of silver jubilee celebration of Ziaur Rahman hall debate club of the university.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal was present as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony organized in the auditorium on Saturday evening, December 9, 2023 and distributed the prizes among the winners.

Hall debating club president Shahriar Babu presided over the event, hall principal Professor Dr. Mohammad Billal Hossain, Bangladesh National Debate Federation Chairman AKM Shoaib and Hall Debating Club Moderator ABM Nazmus Saqib spoke as special guests. Debate Club general secretary Tanveer Ahmed conducted the program.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal said, the greatest Bengali father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with all the martyrs of his family and the immortal memory of all the martyrs in the Great War of Liberation, with the aim of building a democratic, developed and prosperous state, the people of this country have achieved independence through the Great Liberation War under the leadership of Bangabandhu. Our achievement of independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu resonated in the hearts of all the freedom-seeking people of the world.

Just before the victory, the Pakistani invaders killed our intellectuals so that Bangladesh could not stand up as a developed and prosperous country. Bangladesh has turned around today under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and has become a role model for development in the world. The Vice-Chancellor appealed to the young generation to further the development of the country in the future and to develop as responsible citizens in building a rational civilized society.

34 teams from different universities participated in the team debate competition in the debate festival. Besides, 32 debaters participated in the Barwari debate. Sultanul Arefin Biojit of Dhaka University became the champion in Barwari debate. Debater of the final at team level is Tanveer Hasan Shanto of Suryasen Hall.
