DU central coordination committee meeting on Bengali New Year celebration held

A meeting of Dhaka University Central Coordinating Committee was held on Wednesday in the virtual classroom of Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury in the Administrative Building to properly celebrate Bengali New Year-1431.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) and Bengali New Year Celebration Central Coordinating Committee Convener Professor Dr.Muhammad Samad chaired the meeting. Convener and member-secretary of various sub-committees were present.

In the meeting, the overall preparations and progress of the proper celebration of Bengali New Year-1431 in the university campus were discussed in detail and satisfaction was expressed over the preparations for celebrating the New Year in a festive atmosphere.

On the occasion of Bengali New Year celebration, this year Mars procession will be taken out from the Faculty of Fine Arts at 9 am on Pahela Boishakh with the theme 'Amra to Timirbinashi'. The Mangal Sobhayatra will pass through Shahbagh intersection and end in front of Shishu Park and again go through Shahbagh to the Student-Teacher Center.

Wearing of any type of face mask and carrying of bags is not allowed in the university campus on Pahela Boishakh. However, masks prepared by the Faculty of Fine Arts can be exhibited by hand. All are requested to refrain from playing and selling vuvuzila flutes on the university campus.

All activities on New Year's Day in the campus must be completed by 5 pm. On New Year's Day, the campus will be open till 5:00 PM. No entry after 5pm, only exit. On New Year's Eve, Saturday, April 13, after 7:00 p.m., no vehicles other than vehicles with university stickers will be allowed on campus. No vehicles are allowed on the campus on New Year's Day and motorcycling is strictly prohibited. A person residing in the university campus can use only the gate adjacent to Neelkhet Mor and the gate adjacent to Palashi Mor for traveling in their own vehicle.

On New Year's Day, the gates of Suhrawardy Udyan will be closed behind the Raju Sculpture in front of the Student-Teacher Centre. People coming to the university campus can use the photo booth gate opposite the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Suhrawardy Udyan gate opposite the Bangla Academy and the gate adjacent to the Engineering Institute to enter the Suhrawardy Udyan. The gate adjacent to the Engineering Institute, the gate adjacent to Ramana Kali Temple and the gate of Suhrawardy Udyan opposite Bangla Academy can be used as the exit route from Suhrawardy Udyan.

In front of the student-teacher center will be the university help desk, control room and temporary medical camp. Mobile public toilets will be installed in the area adjacent to Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall ground, the area adjacent to the Student-Teacher Center, the area around Doyal Square and the Curzon Hall area.

In the meeting, the police authorities were requested to install adequate CCTV cameras and archways in the university campus for the sake of security on New Year's Day.
