Public Administration State Minister Farhad Hossain MP said, Dr. Mazharul Islam was a multi-dimensional talent and creative personality.

He was a pioneer in the study of folklore.Besides, he was a close companion of Bangabandhu and a successful politician.

He also said that the spirit of the liberation war and the ideals of Bangabandhu should be loved by the country.Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman used to say, if you love people, they will not hesitate to give their lives for you. Those who hold the ideals of Bangabandhu in their hearts, who did not surrender to lawsuits-attacks, prison-oppression, fear-fear and greed-lust. Mazharul Islam was one of them.

Although he was repeatedly imprisoned and tortured, he never deviated from Bangabandhu's ideals.Rather, he was arrested after Bangabandhu was killed by his own family on August 15, 1975 while serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University.

Shahjadpur Ravindra Kacharibari Auditorium on Thursday afternoon, prominent educationist Dr.Public Administration State Minister Farhad Hossain MP said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the commemoration meeting organized on the occasion of the 19th death anniversary of Mazharul Islam.

The memorial meeting was organized by the family of late Mazharul Islam.The memorial meeting was presided over by Professor Marina Jahan Kavita, eldest daughter of the deceased and Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-6 (Shahzadpur) Constituency. Upazila Awami League president and former MP Chayan Islam, son of the deceased, gave a welcome speech.

Sirajganj-6 (Shahzadpur) Constituency Member of Parliament and member of Central Awami League Professor Marina Jahan Kavita said the president of the memorial meeting.Mazharul Islam was my father.He was like the infinite sky.He did not deviate from the ideals of Bangabandhu despite the temptation and torture! Apart from education, he was also successful in business.After Bangabandhu was killed in his family, my father protested and he was also arrested.After being released from jail, he lived in exile for 6 years and taught in various educational institutions in India.

Rabindra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Shah Azam, Deputy Commissioner of Sirajganj Dr.Farooq Ahmed and former MP Selina Begum Sapna. Upazila Parishad Chairman Prof. Azad Rahman, prominent Rabindra singer Lily Islam, Women's Awami League Joint-General Secretary Dr.Jannat Ara Henry, Upazila Awami League Vice President Swapan Sarkar, Joint General Secretary Mustaq Ahmed, Organizing Secretary Humayun Kabir Tipu, Jubo League Central Committee Member Asadullah Tushar, Volunteer League President Maruf Hossain Sunam and others.

Apart from this, upazila executive officer Sadia Afrin, Sirajganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Shahzadpur Circle) Hasibul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Liaquat Salman, Sumgan Karim, a member of the international affairs sub-committee of Central Awami League, were present at various levels of the party.

At the beginning of the commemoration, folk dance artists performed the dance 'Aguner Parshamani Choyao Prane'. Teachers and students of various schools and colleges, freedom fighters, journalists, representatives of civil society and local dignitaries were present in the meeting.
