
Dacope Upazila Jamaat Ameer among two killed in bus accident

In a tragic accident in Bhanga, Faridpur, a bus carrying participants to Jamaat-e-Islami’s national rally in Dhaka met with an accident, resulting in the deaths of two people, including Maulana Abu Sayeed (52), Jamaat Ameer of Dacope Upazila in Khulna. At least five others were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred early Saturday morning (July 19) near the Bhanga Model Mosque on the Khulna–Dhaka highway. Abu Sayeed died on the spot, while another victim, Mohammad Amanat Sheikh (55), succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Mohammad Amanat Sheikh was a resident of Banisanta area in Dacope upazila and son of Md. Ismail Sheikh. Abu Sayeed, the deceased Jamaat Ameer of Dacope, was an assistant Maulvi at Chalna Billalia Alim Madrasa. He was the son of late Shohor Ali of Chalna Municipality and is survived by his wife and four daughters.
According to sources, Jamaat-e-Islami had arranged for 260 buses from Khulna to take leaders and activists to their national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. During a brief stop in front of Bhanga Model Mosque for tea, Abu Sayeed and others got off the bus to fix a banner that had come loose.
At that moment, a Royal Paribahan bus hit them from behind at high speed, killing Abu Sayeed instantly. The bus fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Seriously injured victims including Md. Amanat Sheikh, Md. Anisur Rahman, and Md. Iqbal Hossain were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the incident, OC of Bhanga Police Station Mohammad Ashraf Hossain said that one person died on the spot in the early morning accident, while another passed away later during treatment. Legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
