Former Prime Ministers of British, Pakistan and Bangladesh governments could not dare to take a train to Cox's Bazar, the world's best tourist center, but the Prime Minister of the current government, Sheikh Hasina, laid the foundation stone of the 101 km railway to Chittagong Dohazari on 3 April 2011 in Cox's Bazar.

The cost of which is estimated to be 18 thousand 34 crores.

Last November 11' Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the railway in Cox's Bazar. Cox's Bazar Express was inaugurated on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route on December 1 last year.

Due to the huge popularity of this train, the second train 'Tourist Express' was launched on January 10. Three thousand and 130 passengers are traveling daily in these two pairs of intercity trains on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route.

After these two trains, considering the demand of the passengers, the commuter train is also being launched on the Cox's Bazar-Chittagong route in February. Two commuter trains will run daily on this newly-constructed railway, the railway authorities said.

When speaking to Cox's Bazar Iconic Station Master Golam Rabbani, he said that considering the needs of passengers, commuter trains are also being started on the Cox's Bazar-Chittagong route from next month.

He also said that there is a demand of the locals to start running trains on the Cox's Bazar-Chittagong route. In that case, the railway authority can start the commuter train on this route next month. If this train starts, apart from meeting the needs of local passengers, passengers will be able to travel from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar through various stations including Ramu, Eidgaon, Dulhazara, Chakria, Harbang, Dohazari.

He also said that the commuter train will travel twice daily.
