Chattogram traders fined for overcharging on potatoes

The Consumer Rights Protection Department conducted a surprise inspection at the wholesale potato market in Riazuddin Bazaar, Chattogram, uncovering discrepancies between the listed and actual prices.
While the price list displayed a rate of 58 taka per kilogram, traders were selling potatoes at 60 taka per kilogram.
As a result, M/S Asif Traders was fined 10,000 taka for the violation. Additionally, M/S Daudkandi Banijjaloy was penalized 6,000 taka, and M/S Akbar Traders received an 8,000 taka fine for failing to update their price lists properly. The traders were also issued warnings to comply with regulations in the future.
Nasrin Akter, Assistant Director of the Consumer Rights Protection Department in Chattogram, confirmed that a total fine of 24,000 taka was imposed on three businesses. She also emphasized that such inspections would continue to ensure fair pricing and protect consumer interests.
