Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council takes charge

A new 15-member Interim Parishad of the reconstituted Bandarban Hills District Council under the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has taken charge on Monday morning.
14 members of the newly formed Bandarban Hill District Council, including Chairman Thanjama Lusai, officially took charge at the Parishad Auditorium.
Chief Executive Officer Masum Billah Civil Engineer Ziaur Rahman along with other officers of the Parishad were present at the taking charge ceremony of Bandarban Hill District Council. The Chairman and members of the newly formed Interim Council participated in the signing of the joining letter and introduction.
After taking charge, Zilla Parishad Chairman Prof. Thanjama Lusai said, I will start work by giving priority to education, health, agriculture and tourism in the hilly areas. He said, I will work to prevent all types of corruption along with fulfilling my responsibilities honestly. He requested everyone to cooperate with the newly formed council of the district council.
On November 7, a notification issued by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs formed the new council.
The newly formed Zilla Parishad members are - Rajumoy Tanchangya, Mae Mae Nu, Advocate Ubathwai Marma, Um Ching Marma, Khamlai Murung, Mong Ae Ching Chak, Sanai Præ Tripura, Lal Jarlam Bum, Nang Phrua Khumi, Saiful Islam, Nashir Uddin, Advocate Muhammad Abul. Kalam and Khursida Ishaq.
It should be noted that there are differences between the three hill district councils than the district councils of the country's 61 districts. Bandarban, Rangamati, and Khagrachari hill districts are constituted by 3 separate Zilla Parishads enacted in 1989. Some sections of the Act of 1989 were subsequently amended twice.
Provisions have been made for the formation of interim council consisting of 1 tribal chairman, 4 non-tribal members and 10 tribal members if the full elected council cannot be formed for any reason under the powers provided by the amended sub-section of the Rangamati District Council Act of 1989. According to this provision, an interim council consisting of the present chairman and 14 members has been formed. A total of 3 women members including 2 tribal and 1 non-tribal are reserved in the present council.
