Certificate distribution of training workshop on social protection at DU

The certificate distribution ceremony of the training workshop titled ‘Social Protection with a Focus on Social Insurance’ organized by the Institute of Health Economics, Dhaka University was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Saturday.
The program was presided over by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan and Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed was present as the chief guest.
This training program was organized in collaboration with the German technical assistance agency ‘GIZ’.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Secretary of the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Dr. Md. Mohiuddin and Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment A. H. M. Shafiquzzaman spoke as special guests at the program.
The welcome speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Sharmin Mobin Bhuiyan, Director of the Institute of Health Economics, Dhaka University. Professor Dr. Syed Abdul Hamid, Professor of the Institute, highlighted the overall theme of the training course.
Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, emphasized on transforming the country's human resources into human resources and said that for this purpose, people of all classes and professions, including the poor, should be brought under the social security net.
Along with the government, various private organizations and insurance companies should play an effective role in this regard. He emphasized on ensuring transparency and accountability of social security programs at all levels and sectors.
Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, called on all professionals, including academicians, researchers, government officials, NGO workers, to work together to build a prosperous new Bangladesh, forgetting all divisions and differences. Stressing the importance of building strong cooperative relationships among all sectors to move Bangladesh forward, he said that it is possible to achieve human welfare and ensure social security only through mutual cooperation.
He mentioned that such training programs for professionals at Dhaka University will continue in the future. Incidentally, middle-ranking officials of various ministries participated in this training workshop.
