A case has been filed with the police station on the charge of raping a seventh grade student (12) by a neighboring uncle in Phulbari of Kurigram on Monday.

Police rescued the girl and sent her to Kurigram Sadar Hospital for medical examination. The incident happened on March 13 in Roshan Shimulbari village of Shimulbari union of the upazila. The accused uncle is absconding since the case.

According to the details of the case, the girl's parents often stayed outside the house as she worked as a daily wage worker. On the occasion of the girl being alone at home, the neighbor uncle Shafiqul Islam (28), son of Abdul Hamid of that village, often gave her bad suggestions. As Shafiqul did not agree to the bad proposal, he used to tempt and intimidate the girl in various ways.

About a month and a half ago, when the girl's mother went to her parents' house and the father was out for work, Shafiqul entered the house during the day and forcibly raped the girl against her will. He then threatened to kill anyone if he told anyone. As the girl did not tell anyone out of fear, Shafiqul again started looking for an opportunity to rape her. At one point, on March 13, when he tried to rape the girl's house, the surrounding people noticed and tried to catch him. Shafiqul managed to escape after seeing the dire situation. But the girl's family shows fear and greed for money to cover up the incident.

Meanwhile, the girl's father filed a case at Phulbari police station as a plaintiff yesterday after going after the matbars for justice for about six days without getting justice.

OC of Phulbari police station Fazlur Rahman confirmed the fact that the case was registered in the police station and said that the girl has been sent to Kurigram Sadar Hospital for medical examination. Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
