BUET student killed in N'ganj road mishap

A BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) student named Muhtasim Masud (22) lost his life in a road accident in Rupganj Upazila, Narayanganj. He was a second-year student in the CSE department at BUET.

Senior Assistant Police Superintendent (Ga-Circle) Mehedi Islam confirmed the incident on Friday at 12:30 PM.

The accident occurred on Thursday (December 19) late at night in front of a passenger shed in the 300-feet area of Purbachal, Rupganj. The deceased, Masud, was the son of Md. Masud Mia from Green Road, under Kalabagan Police Station in Dhaka.

Masud's father, Md. Masud Mia, filed a case with the Rupganj Police Station regarding the incident. According to the case details, BUET students Muhtasim Masud (22), Md. Mehedi Hasan Khan (22), and Amit Saha (22) traveled by motorcycle to Purbachal’s Neela Market for food.

After finishing their meal, Muhtasim Masud approached his motorcycle to leave. At that moment, a private car, driving recklessly, rammed into them. Muhtasim Masud died on the spot, and the other two students, Mehedi Hasan Khan and Amit Saha, sustained severe injuries.

People present at the scene detained the car driver, Md. Mubin Al Mamun (20), and handed him over to the police. Mubin is the son of Abdullah Al Mamun from Mirpur DOHS, under Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka.

Senior Assistant Police Superintendent (Ga-Circle) Mehedi Islam said, “The road accident near the passenger shed adjacent to the Neela Market and Balu Bridge in Purbachal caused the death of BUET student Muhtasim Masud and injured two others. Police have successfully arrested three individuals, including the driver involved in the incident.”
