Even after 50 years of independence, the wheel of fortune has not changed for Nurjahan Begum, a heroic freedom fighter who participated in the great liberation war. The woman freedom fighter has been living in a dilapidated mud house for almost 30 years.
Wiping away the water from the corners of his eyes with one hand, he said, "If I could have died by staying overnight in a good house with the attention of the Prime Minister, I would have found peace of mind even if I died."
He lives in Kismat Srimantapur village, Ward 3, Borkit Union, Chandina Upazila, in the 5 per cent Basat VT left by his father-in-law, the late Mohabbat Ali. He lives in a mud house with 3 sons, wife of 3 sons, 6 grandchildren and all members of the family. Inhuman life is that heroic freedom fighter.
The eldest son Abdur Rashid is a tea seller in Tejkunipara of Tejgaon area of the capital. Mejho's son Abu Mia is unemployed. The younger son runs the household by selling tea in a small tin shed shop in front of the house. Although two members of the family are working, there is no economic prosperity. Family members have to struggle to make ends meet twice a day. Building a new house is a fantasy where it is difficult to support the family.
Birangana Freedom Fighter ( FF) Nurjahan Begum is getting regular freedom fighter allowance. However, he did not receive any government assistance or food aid after the outbreak of Corona epidemic (Covid-19). When they go to the local people's representatives for help, they do not agree to give any other benefits by raising the issue of getting the allowance.
Birangana freedom fighter Nurjahan Begum said she was raising two goats with her own money. If you get some money by selling it, you will be able to bear the expenses of the family. He is currently physically ill. He was paralyzed by a stroke in January last year (2020). Now you can take a walk with the treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in the capital. He is suffering from various diseases including high blood pressure.
Advanced treatment is required. He is not able to take advanced treatment due to lack of money. He has borrowed Rs 50,000 from other people for treatment. He has not yet been able to repay the loan.
Freedom fighter Nurjahan Begum has a dream. Due to lack of money, the boys could not read and write. Ferdous Hridoy, the eldest son (grandson) of Mejho's son Abu Mia, is currently studying in the first year of BBA (Honors) in Finance and Banking under the National University. It is his dream to get a government job for his grandson.
It is learned that she lived with her husband and children at Tejkunipara, 183 / A, Tejgaon area of the capital. From there he participated in the liberation war. He went to war in Sector 9 under the leadership of Komaar Hemayet Uddin. After that the country became independent but lost her husband.
Nurjahan Begum was born on 19 August 1950 at Itkhola Bajitpur in Madaripur upazila of Faridpur district. Father Salesman Moral and mother Johra Begum. Both parents died. They used to rent a house in the capital Dhaka from a young age.
