Bhuyapur police station building now death trap, unfit for habitation

As the police station building in Tangail's Bhuyapur is old, the roof and walls of this two-storey building are falling apart. Police operations in the building are at risk.

Working policemen are working in the police station building despite knowing the risk. Each of the policemen's rooms in the building have now turned into death traps.

On the spot it is seen that Bhuyapur police station building, it was seen that the plaster of the roof of different rooms on the two-storied building was falling off and the iron rods were coming out. The building is in a dilapidated condition as it has not been renovated for a long time. If the building is not repaired quickly, there is a danger of a major accident at any time.

According to sources, on August 7, 1974, former Home and Communications Minister late M. Mansur Ali inaugurated Bhuyapur police station. On November 9, 1983, Dhaka Division DIG M Azizul Haque laid the foundation stone of Thana Bhaban. After that there were occasional renovations but it didn't work.

Working policeman Khaybar Alam said that the building of the police station has become unfit for living. Having to stay here as there is no alternative building. The plaster is falling down the pit of sand and bricks. When it rains, water falls in the room. Currently the building needs renovation or a separate new building.

Police member Saddam Hossain said, the building we are living in is very dangerous. The plaster is falling off and the iron rods are coming out. If you sleep, the roof tiles break and sand often falls into your eyes. When it rains again, the water falls. If it was a new building then this problem would not exist.

In this regard, the officer in charge (OC) of Bhuyapur police station AKM Rezaul Karim said, we all policemen work for people's lives and public safety. Those who work day and night, at the end of the day are not able to sleep peacefully in the building. They have to spend sleepless nights in fear of accidents.

He also said that the plaster is falling off at different places of the roof and walls of the building and the operation is going on with risk. As a result, major accidents can happen at any time.

The present building has been declared abandoned and has been informed with an application to the higher office to construct a new building and make good accommodation arrangements.
