Army operation in Lakshmichari : One arrested with weapons

An active member of the United People's Democratic Front (Prosit Group), a regional armed organization of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, has been arrested with weapons by members of the Lakshmichari Army Zone in Khagrachari.
On Sunday at around 2 am, the army conducted a raid in the East Nabhanga area of Dullyatli Union of the upazila and arrested one named Jibon Chakma (28) with weapons.
The arrested Jibon Chakma is a resident of Ward No. 7 of Dullyatli UP No. 2 of the upazila and is the son of the deceased Shanti Chakma.
After the arrest, a country-made firearm, 3 rounds of bullets, a pair of uniforms, two mobile phones (a smartphone and a button phone), a notebook and a national identity card were recovered from him.
The army handed over Jibon Chakma along with the recovered goods to Lakshmichari Police Station.
Police sources said that the arrested Jibon Chakma had been involved in various terrorist activities including extortion in different parts of Lakshmichari Upazila for a long time. He is an armed member of the United People's Democratic Front (Prosit Group), a regional armed organization of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
OC of Lakshmichari Police Station Md. Khaled Hossain said, a case has been filed against the arrested Jibon Chakma at Lakshmichari Police Station on charges of illegal possession of weapons. The arrested person will be handed over to the court after completing all legal procedures.
