An ‘evergreen king’ of Jahangirnagar University

JU Correspondent

Arman Khan Jubo was elected the ‘King’ of Jahangirnagar University by his fellow students under the academic session of 2011-12 aiming to conduct the final session of Rag Day of the batch in 2019.

But Jubo reportedly kept the kingdom at his hand till now and has been in the headlines of newspapers frequently for his involvement in drug dealing, beating businessmen for not being able to pay extortion, drug dealers for not being able to supply drugs in time.

According to Mowlana Bhashani Hall administration, Jubo was staying illegally at room no. 126 of the hall though his studentship expired about five years ago.

‘Jubo made the room a torture cell’, residents of the hall said adding that he had been released from all charges as he is sibling of former BCL central committee president Al Nahian Khan Joy.

On September 10, 2023, Jubo picked a job seeker from the village Gerua adjacent to the campus, beat him up at the room, and handed him over to police citing theft allegation, according to Ashulia Police Station.

However, police released the job seeker finding him innocent.

The deputy information and communication affairs secretary of JU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League Zahid Hasan Emon on Wednesday alleged that he was brutally tortured by Jubo at the room on August 13, 2023.

Emon disclosed the matter at a press conference at JU Journalists’ Association office at the university demanding immediate justice over the torture.

‘Jubo along with his two fellows Arafat Rahman, Tushar were taking yaba pills and alcohol while beating me up at the room.’ Emon quoted.

Later, at the gunpoint Jubo captured a video clip of me confessing about my false involvement in drug dealing, annoying house owners and hurling abusive words at JU BCL top brass, Emon said.

Earlier on April this year, a cable network company folded up their business from the Mowlana Bhasani hall for not being able to pay large amounts of extortion money and monthly extortion to Jubo.

In May, some followers of Jubo snatched worth Tk 2 lakhs of instruments such as amplifier, cable and cable cutter machines and vandalised the shop at the Ambagan area adjacent to JU campus, the victim businessman said.

The victim businessman also said that the followers of Jubo forcibly closed the business as the owners did not comply with their demands.

On August, Jubo along with his fellows beat up a local as he allegedly delayed supplying drugs, the local said.

Contacted, provost of Mowlana Bhashani Hall Hossain Md. Sayem said, ‘He is not a non-student. He is a former student. I was aware of his staying in the room. I already informed the university’s higher authorities.’

However, the provost said that he was not aware of any torture at the hall.

Alleged Arman Khan Jubo could not be reached for his comments as his cell phone was found switched off.
