
Ali Akhtar Hossain joins as LGED Chief Engineer

Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain joined as the Chief Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) through an order issued by the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on 26 September 2023.
Senior Additional Chief Engineer (Grade-2) of LGED Headquarters Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain has been given the current charge of Chief Engineer of LGED. He was succeeded by Chief Engineer Sheikh Mohammad Mohsin.
Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain was born on October 20, 1965 in a noble Muslim family in Vijaynagar village of Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi.
His father's name is Alauddin Mandal and mother's name is Hazera Khatun.
He passed SSC from Gomstapur Alinagar High School, Chapai Nawabganj in 1980 and HSC from Rajshahi College in 1982 with merit.
In 1986, he obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the then Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Khulna (now Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Kuwait) and a master's degree in environmental management from Nottingham University, United Kingdom in 2002. Completed the implementation of the Bank Supported Sustainable Rural Infrastructure Improvement Project (SRIIP).
Moreover, he was directly and indirectly involved in the preparation of many projects of LGED. He has earned a reputation as a brilliant hard worker, efficient and honest engineer. In his career, he belongs to Care Bangladesh
Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain joined the then LGEB on June 1, 1989 and started his career as an upazila engineer of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila from June 3, 1989. He served as Upazila Engineer, Executive Engineer and Project Director in his career of more than 34 years. During this time, he was directly involved in the development of rural infrastructure and participated in the overall development of Bangladesh. As a project director he successfully implemented the project.
He was awarded Gold Medal in 1995 and Best Project Award for Sustainable Rural Infrastructure Improvement Project (SRIIP) from Asian Development Bank ADB for three consecutive years (2014, 2015, 2016). Prior to this, he managed the PMT program across the country (with World Bank assistance) of the Ministry of Education with great success. He currently serves as the President of Bangabandhu Engineers' Council of LGED.
A member of the Board of Trustees of the Kuwait Alumni Association and a member of the Alumni Association of the University of Nottingham, UK. He is a member of Dhaka Officers Club and Life Fellow of Engineering Institution Bangladesh (IEB).
Akhtar served in 2017 as Superintending Engineer, Planning Unit of LGED Headquarters and promoted as Additional Chief Engineer in 2019. During this time he served as Director of Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CRILIC) at LGED Headquarters.
He then served as Additional Chief Engineer of Integrated Water Management and Road and Bridge Maintenance. Served as Additional Chief Engineer (Grade-2) as Planning, Design and Research from last 3 March 2023.
After joining the service, he participated in a total of 30 trainings and workshops in various technical, management, planning and other subjects in the country and abroad to achieve professional excellence. He visited Nepal as part of training, international seminars, workshops and government duties.
He traveled to various countries including Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, France, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Turkey, Singapore, Germany, Hong Kong, Belgium, Netherlands and United Kingdom.
Nilima Jahan Kakali is wife of Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain. He is a father of one son (Al Inzamam Akhtar) and one daughter (Mihda Luban Akhtar). Only grandchild two-year-old Ethan remains at the center of the family.
